The Manager’s Message
By Lieutenant Commander Allen Mortimer, RNZN
Toward the end of this month (27 Sep until 01 Oct) the NCO is conducting its Navy children’s spring camp, a first at the Tamaki Leadership Centre which is situated at the end of the Whangapararoa Peninsula. We are really looking forward to being able to have this camp at our new facilities at the TLC and we are also impressed that this year lots of parents have volunteered to help as carers and supervisors.
We are hoping for an improved week weather wise, to what was experienced last year at Camp Adair, however should this not be the case, we are confident that the amenities at TLC will more than be able to cater when it comes to indoor activities or drying clothes (this proved difficult in 09). The planning has now been completed for many activities which will cater for all tastes and talents.
A highlight of the week will be a ‘march past’ which will be reviewed by one of the Senior Officers in HMNZS Philomel.
You’re never too young to learn how to march, be part of a team and the children get quite a ‘buzz’ from taking part.
On another general note, please do not hesitate to contact the NCO on the 0800 number if there is information or advice you require or something is bothering you and you just want to talk to someone. We are also keen to hear any ideas you have on how we can improve our service to the navy community.
One of our primary aims is to make sure that Next of Kin details are correct, so if you know these have changed (like a cell phone number for example) please ask your partner to have these details amended immediately as you never know when they may need to be used.
I think we may have had our last (and only?) frost for this year in Auckland and I am keeping my fingers crossed for good weather for this years children’s camp.
Until next time please take care.
